THE ARTIST. John James Audubon (born Jean-Jacques Rabin) was an ornithologist, naturalist, and painter. His major work, The Birds of America, published between 1827 and 1839, was an extensive study documenting all types of American birds in their natural habitats. Combining high-quality production with magnificent fine art, the covers are printed on foil in five colours, embossed then foil stamped. This example is based on 'Wheat Field with Cypresses' by Vincent van Gogh. Vincent Van Gogh composed this painting while he was in the Saint-Rémy mental asylum, near Arles. The bold use of impasto and the beauty of the towering trees have made this one of his most recognisable works. There are various other versions of the painting, one of which features a closer view of the cypresses painted vertically, as well as a replica of this version that Van Gogh painted for his mother and sister.

THE ARTIST. William Kilburn (1745-1818) was a highly regarded designer of block-printed cottons in the 18th century. Born in Dublin, he was apprenticed to a cotton and linen printer at Lucan. She is awestruck by the sheer variety of petal shapes, the detailed patterning and vein layouts. When creating a new piece, Nina takes this inspiration from nature and lets the design build organically. She loves to allow each element she's drawing to flow from the last, where each one informs the other. Nina's artwork embraces the full and glorious spectrum of colours embodied in the natural world.
